Where to Stay at Skadar Lake: Villages, Prices and Trade-offs
Choosing a base on Skadar Lake is really a choice between convenience, silence and swimming. No single village gives you all three.
The four realistic bases
Virpazar is the convenient choice: restaurants, boats, the train, and everything walkable. It is also the noisiest and the hardest for parking. The hills above it — Godinje, Boljevići, Limljani — are quiet, cheap, full of stone houses and vineyards, and require a car.
Rijeka Crnojevića is prettier and calmer than Virpazar but has fewer boats and fewer places to eat. Murići on the southern shore is the only base with a genuine swimming beach, but the drive there is a slow mountain road.
What you will pay
Guesthouse doubles run €40–70 in summer, apartments €55–95, and the handful of boutique stone villas €120–200. That is roughly half of coastal pricing for the same standard. Book June–August a month ahead; the good places are small and fill fast.
If you want a base that combines lake access with a proper kitchen and parking, accommodation near Virpazar in a private apartment is usually better value than a hotel room in Bar or Budva.
