Yes — it is the largest lake in the Balkans, a national park, and the only place in Montenegro where you can be genuinely alone in a landscape. One morning on the water is worth more than a day on a crowded coastal beach.

June for water lilies and warm water, March–May for birds and green mountains, September for warmth without crowds. Avoid midday between July and mid-August.

One full day covers a boat tour and Virpazar. Two days lets you add the monasteries, the Pavlova Strana viewpoint and a wine cellar without rushing.

A small park fee (a few euros) is normally collected by boat operators as part of the ticket. Walking in the park is free.

Shared loops last 60–120 minutes. Private routes run 3–4 hours for wooden boats and 4–8 hours for sport boats. Three to four hours is the sweet spot.

For groups of four or more they cost less per person than shared tickets. For couples they buy route control, silence and departure times the group boats do not offer.

Mainly Virpazar, which reaches open water in ten minutes. Rijeka Crnojevića offers river trips, and Vranjina has a few small operators.

In July and August, yes — good private boats are gone by mid-morning. In May, June and September you can usually arrange something the day before.

Yes. The water is clean and warm from June to late September. Swim away from reed beds and lily fields — the open bays and rocky southern shore are best.

In July and August, yes. The free lot fills by 09:30 and roadside spaces get ticketed. Reserved private parking near the pier is the reliable option.

In the evenings near reeds, yes, particularly in June. Repellent solves it; the open water is fine.

Water, sun hat, sunscreen, a swimsuit and towel, cash for the village, and binoculars if you care about birds. Shade exists only on wooden boats.
