Parking in Virpazar: Where to Actually Leave the Car
Virpazar has perhaps 120 usable parking spaces and several thousand summer visitors a day. This is the single most common way a good day at Skadar Lake starts badly.
The options, ranked
The gravel lot by the main road entrance is the largest and free; it is full by 09:30 in July and by 11:00 in shoulder season. The small area beside the bridge holds a dozen cars and is often coned off for deliveries. Roadside spaces along the approach road look tempting and are regularly ticketed, especially where the shoulder narrows.
The reliable answer is a reserved private space arranged with your boat operator. Secure parking near the departure point costs a few euros or is included, and it puts you 50 metres from the pier instead of 600 metres uphill.
Insider tipDo not park on the grass near the river. It floods after summer storms and the tow truck comes from Bar.
Timing and alternatives
Arriving before 09:00 solves the problem outright and gives you the best light and the calmest water. Arriving between 11:00 and 14:00 in August is the worst possible window.
Without a car, the train from Bar or Podgorica drops you a kilometre from the bridge — an easy flat walk, and the reason a rail day trip to Virpazar works surprisingly well.
