Budva to Skadar Lake: Day Trip Without the Coach Tour
Every hotel in Budva sells a Skadar Lake coach excursion. Almost all of them deliver the same 90-minute channel loop with 40 other people. Driving yourself takes an hour and produces a far better day.
Driving from Budva
One hour to Virpazar via Petrovac and the Sozina tunnel — the fastest and least stressful route. Leave by 07:30 in July to arrive before the coaches and before the car parks fill.
Why to skip the packaged excursion
Coach tours arrive at 11:00, the worst hour of the day: flat light, quiet wildlife, packed village. Independently you can be on a private boat at 09:00 and back for a late Budva swim. A premium Skadar Lake private tour costs little more than four coach tickets and bears no resemblance to them.
Fitting it around Budva
Lake in the morning, old town and Mogren beach in the late afternoon. Sveti Stefan viewpoint is on the way back if you take the coastal road instead of the tunnel.
